About Prudence Poswa
About Prudence Poswa? Well my journey to becoming a psychologist began as a Social Worker, driven by my passion for working with families. I started by researching parents’ perspectives on adolescents’ use of social media and its impact on the parent-adolescent relationship for my Master’s in Social Work.
However, recognizing the need for further professional growth, I pursued an honours degree in Psychology and completed a Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Nelson Mandela University. This educational phase allowed me to explore diverse therapeutic modalities and psychological assessment methods, shaping me into the psychotherapist I am today.
Meanwhile, I conducted a research study on young adults’ perceptions of how parental divorce during childhood influenced their adult development. The findings highlighted the significant role parents play in shaping their children’s lives. It also highlighted the importance of their relationship dynamics in child and adult development.
My internship at the University of Witwatersrand was instrumental in establishing me as a psychotherapist passionate about childhood development, trauma, and addressing unmet childhood needs in adulthood. This focus has become central to my work.
I am currently a registered Counselling Psychologist with HPCSA, practicing in Boksburg. My love for my work stems from the profound impact it has on my clients. I diagnose and treat various disorders, such as depression, anxiety, personality issues, eating disorders, and more. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, with a strong emphasis on Schema Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), allowing me to comprehensively understand my clients’ history and the roots of their issues.
My passion for what I do fuels my commitment to providing ethical and professional services of the highest quality. I am deeply invested in each client I work with and find great fulfillment in witnessing their growth in self-awareness and their ability to make positive changes that benefit their overall well-being.
